Food Delivery in Korea for Travelers: Apps, Payment & Hotel Tips
Last updated: September 2026
Food delivery is a normal part of everyday life in Korea.
Fried chicken, tteokbokki, pizza, coffee, desserts, and even convenience-store items can arrive at your accommodation with just a few taps.
For travelers, however, ordering delivery has traditionally been a little confusing. Korean phone-number verification, unfamiliar addresses, Korean-only menus, and payment restrictions could make something simple feel surprisingly difficult.
The good news is that things have become much easier.
Today, international travelers have several practical ways to order food in Korea — even without a Korean bank account.
Here is what you need to know.
Quick Answer: Can Tourists Order Food Delivery in Korea?
GOOD TO KNOW
Yes. Food delivery is now much easier for international travelers than it used to be.
For most visitors, I would start with:
Baemin (배달의민족)
A major Korean delivery app with a growing international-friendly ordering experience.
or
Shuttle Delivery
A service designed with international users in mind, with multilingual ordering and foreign payment options.
Baemin’s current official guidance says foreign customers can use the service as non-members after verifying an overseas phone number and can select a foreign card under its Global Payments options. However, verification or payment may still vary depending on your phone number, card, or device.
My recommendation: Try Baemin first for the widest local selection. Keep Shuttle Delivery as an easy backup if you have trouble with verification, language, or payment.

1. Which Food Delivery App Should Travelers Use?
You will see several food delivery apps in Korea, but short-term travelers do not need to install all of them.
For most visitors, Baemin and Shuttle Delivery are the two most useful places to start.
Baemin
Baemin, also known as Baedal Minjok (배달의민족), is one of Korea’s major food delivery platforms.
Its official global page now specifically promotes food delivery for travelers staying at hotels and Airbnbs, as well as delivery experiences such as eating by the Hangang River.
Because it is widely used locally, Baemin can give you access to a very large range of restaurants and Korean food.
Shuttle Delivery
Shuttle Delivery is particularly useful for international travelers because it was built around multilingual ordering and foreign-friendly payment.
It offers Korean and international food, although restaurant availability depends on your location and its coverage is more limited than the largest Korean delivery platforms.
2. Can You Use Baemin Without a Korean Phone Number?
For international travelers, Baemin can currently be used without becoming a regular Korean account holder.
Baemin’s developer guidance states that foreign customers can order as non-members, verify an overseas mobile number, and then use supported overseas payment methods.
This is important because older Korea travel guides may still say that Baemin always requires a Korean phone number or Korean identity verification.
That information is no longer completely accurate.
This applies specifically to food-delivery orders. Some Baemin grocery and shopping services may still require a registered account and additional identity verification.
However, overseas SMS verification does not necessarily work perfectly for every phone number or country.
Korea Byways Tip
If the verification message does not arrive:
- Check that your country code is correct
- Make sure your phone can receive international SMS
- Try again using mobile data
- Use Shuttle Delivery as a backup
You do not need to spend your evening fighting with an app just to order dinner.
3. Can You Pay With a Foreign Credit Card?
Yes — but make sure you choose the correct payment option.
For Baemin, look for Global Payments during checkout.
Foreign customers can currently choose options that include:
- Foreign Card
- Alipay
- WeChat Pay
Shuttle Delivery also accepts major credit cards, and its official service lists credit cards and PayPal among its payment options.
GOOD TO KNOW
A card that works normally in Korean shops does not automatically mean it will work in every Korean app.
If your first card fails, try another international card rather than assuming the entire service is unavailable.
4. How Do You Enter Your Delivery Address?
This is one of the most important parts of ordering food in Korea.
Whenever possible, use your accommodation’s Korean road-name address rather than trying to translate the address yourself.
For a hotel, ask the front desk for the Korean address.
For an Airbnb, your host can usually provide it.
You may need to enter additional information such as:
- Hotel or building name
- Room number
- Apartment or unit number
- Building entrance
- Delivery instructions
Korea Byways Tip
Copy the Korean address into your phone before you order.
The same Korean address can also be useful for taxis, maps, restaurant reservations, and other services during your trip.
5. Can Food Be Delivered to a Hotel?
Usually, yes.
Food delivery to hotels is common, but the rider may not be allowed to come directly to your room.
VisitKorea notes that hotel guests commonly collect delivery orders in the lobby, although some accommodations may allow delivery to the room.
Before ordering, check your hotel’s policy.
A simple approach is:
Hotel address + hotel name + lobby pickup
Then watch your app so that you know when the rider arrives.

6. What About an Airbnb or Guesthouse?
Delivery to an Airbnb or guesthouse is also possible if the address is within the restaurant’s delivery area.
The main challenge is making sure the rider can find the entrance.
If the building has:
- Several entrances
- A gate
- A door code
- Multiple buildings with the same complex name
give clear delivery instructions whenever possible.
If you are unsure, meeting the rider outside the entrance can be easier than trying to explain a complicated building layout.
7. Can You Order Food to the Hangang River?
Yes — and this is one of the most famous Korean delivery experiences.
Ordering fried chicken or other food and eating it beside the Hangang River is popular with both locals and visitors.
However, you should not simply enter a random location in the park.
Some Hangang parks have designated delivery zones, where riders and customers meet.
VisitKorea specifically describes ordering food to designated delivery areas at Hangang parks and provides examples such as Yeouido and Ttukseom.
Korea Byways Tip
Find the delivery zone before placing your order.
Large parks can be confusing, and telling a driver only “I’m at Hangang Park” is not very helpful.

8. How Much Does Food Delivery Cost?
There is no single delivery fee in Korea.
The total price can vary depending on:
- Restaurant
- Distance
- Delivery type
- Time of day
- Promotions
- Minimum order requirements
Always check the final checkout screen before paying.
You may see separate amounts for:
Food price + delivery fee + any additional charges
Some restaurants or promotions offer free or discounted delivery, while others may charge more for longer distances.
9. What Foods Are Easy to Order?
Almost anything.
Popular delivery choices include:
- Korean fried chicken
- Tteokbokki
- Gimbap
- Jjajangmyeon
- Jokbal
- Bossam
- Pizza
- Burgers
- Coffee
- Desserts
If you are ordering alone, check the minimum order amount before choosing a restaurant.
Some Korean restaurants are designed around meals for two or more people, so the portions can be larger than you expect.

10. Do You Need to Tip the Delivery Driver?
Normally, no.
Tipping is not generally expected for standard food delivery in Korea.
You simply pay the amount shown in the app.
There is no need to calculate an additional percentage for the driver.
11. What If the Rider Calls or Messages You?
Do not panic if you do not speak Korean.
Most deliveries can be completed without a long conversation.
A driver may contact you because:
- They cannot find the entrance
- They have arrived
- A building door is locked
- They need you to come outside
If you cannot communicate easily, use a translation app such as Papago.
You can also prepare a few simple phrases before ordering.
For example:
로비에서 받을게요.
I’ll pick it up in the lobby.
입구로 나갈게요.
I’ll come out to the entrance.
This is one situation where having a translation app ready can save a lot of stress.
12. What If Food Delivery Does Not Work?
Sometimes the easiest solution is not another delivery app.
If phone verification, payment, or your address keeps failing, consider:
Order for pickup
Many restaurants offer pickup orders.
You can place the order in advance and collect the food yourself.
Ask your hotel
Hotel staff may be able to help you confirm the Korean address or explain where deliveries should be collected.
Buy food nearby
Korea has restaurants and convenience stores almost everywhere in major cities.
Food delivery is fun and convenient, but it should never become something you have to make work during your vacation.
Common Food Delivery Mistakes to Avoid
Using only an English address
Keep the Korean address of your accommodation ready.
Assuming every foreign card will work
Have a second card available as backup.
Forgetting hotel delivery rules
Check whether you need to meet the rider in the lobby.
Ordering to a large park without a meeting point
Use the designated delivery zone when available.
Ignoring the minimum order
Check the minimum before spending time choosing your meal.
Missing the rider’s messages
Keep your phone nearby after placing your order.
Following old delivery-app advice
Korean delivery apps are changing quickly. Information saying that foreign travelers can never use Baemin may be outdated.
What I Recommend for a First Trip to Korea
For most travelers, I would use this simple approach:
1. Install Baemin.
2. Keep Shuttle Delivery as a backup.
3. Save your accommodation’s Korean address.
4. Use a foreign card through the available global payment option.
5. For hotels, plan to meet the rider in the lobby.
6. Keep your phone nearby after ordering.
7. Use Papago if the rider sends you a message.
8. Check the final delivery fee and minimum order before paying.
Once you successfully place your first order, food delivery in Korea becomes much less intimidating.
Final Thoughts
Trying food delivery can be a fun way to experience everyday life in Korea.
You can order fried chicken after a long day of sightseeing, enjoy tteokbokki in your hotel, or have a picnic by the Hangang River.
The biggest barriers for international visitors used to be Korean phone verification, payment, and language.
Those barriers have become much smaller.
For most travelers today, the simplest formula is:
Baemin or Shuttle + Korean address + foreign payment card.
And if delivery does not work, do not worry — pickup or a nearby restaurant is usually only a short walk away.
